Concrete Admixtures Testing

Concrete Admixtures Testing Services

Admixtures are an important element for controlling the physical attributes of concrete. They are widely used in designing concrete mixes in order to control parameters that affect how the concrete cures and its long-term performance.

Admixtures are commonly used to control the concrete flow, shrinkage, air entrainment, setting times (both retarding and accelerating), water reduction, and corrosion inhibition.

Concrete Admixtures Testing

We are able to evaluate the claims of the additives on samples of treated concrete in our laboratories through the measurement of flow, setting time, and air contents on wet concrete, and then shrinkage, strength, flexural strength, and the rate of hydration of hardened concrete.

We also evaluate the chemical constituents of admixtures and help to establish other suitable proportions of components that may be substituted to improve the product performance or reduce costs.

Lucideon can test to BS EN 934 to help manufacturers obtain their CE Mark.

The range of standards includes:

  • Part 2. Concrete admixtures
  • Part 3. Admixtures for mortar
  • Part 4. Admixtures for grout
  • Part 5. Admixtures for sprayed concrete

Test requirements include:

  • chloride ion content
  • setting time
  • alkali content
  • corrosion behaviour
  • compressive strength
  • air content
  • water reduction
  • bleeding
  • consistency
  • durability
  • chemical content

White Papers

Concreting Process
The Concreting Process and Petrographic Examination

This white paper provides a broad overview of the concreting process and discusses common deficiencies and degradation mechanisms in hardened concrete structures that require petrographic examination

Digital Image Correlation
The Use of Digital Image Correlation in Masonry Research

Digital Image Correlation is a technique that can deliver video footage of the strain development on the surface of a material due to loading or other actions

Offsite Construction: The Relevance of Full Scale Testing

The purpose of this paper is to show some examples where the results from whole building tests have demonstrated distinct improvements in performance

Case Studies

Hammersmith Flyover
Lucideon Validates the Performance of the UHPFRC for Fryssinet and the Restoration of the Hammersmith Flyover

Testing provided evidence that the strength requirements of the UHPFRC were met at each stage of the flyover restoration process

Lucideon Proved Incorrect Materials were Sourced and Used for New Warehouse Floor

Analysis of concrete and screed identified that the flooring materials specified were not used and lower-cost alternatives were sourced
