12 - 13 November 2024 | The Forge 2024 (Leeds University Cloth Hall, Leeds, UK) Held by The Royal Society of Chemistry’s Particle Characterisation Interest Group (PCIG), this two-day event is dedicated to knowledge sharing and network building within the particle characterisation sphere. As the event enters its third iteration, its reputation is growing as a brilliant opportunity to stay up to speed with the latest technological developments and analytical kit, and is of particular value to organisations such as Lucideon who thrive on anticipating and supporting clients' needs. 7 - 10 November 2024 | Annual Meeting of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (Dallas, Texas, USA) Lucideon will be exhibiting at Booth 311 in the primary Exhibit Hall. 29 - 31 October 2024 | Ceramic Japan (Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan) Lucideon is exhibiting at this event, which is one of seven concurrent trade shows forming the prestigious Highly-Functional Material Week and co-hosted by our friends at the Japan Fine Ceramics Association (JFCA). As Japan’s largest fine ceramics show, it is one of the world’s leading major ceramics trade fairs and has been running since 2016. Ceramic Japan focuses on all aspects of high-performance ceramics, from coatings, powder technology, manufacturing, and processing. Running the Lucideon exhibition this year are Carolyn Grimley and Richard White, supported by David Syrad and joined by AMRICC Business Development Manager Ed Maynard. 29 - 30 October 2024 | 8th UK-Japan Nuclear Industry Forum (British Embassy, Tokyo, Japan) Lucideon's Principal Consultant, Dr Richard White, attended the event, representing our materials expertise on the world stage in beautiful surroundings. This appearance marked the most recent step in Lucideon's continued expansion into the Japanese market, alongside our exhibition at Ceramics Japan, membership of the Japanese Fine Ceramic Association (JFCA), and the opening of offices in Osaka and Haneda Innovation Park. 1 - 4 October 2024 | Big Science Business Forum (Generali Convention Center, Trieste, Italy) Lucideon appeared at this year's BSBF2024 conference in Trieste following some stellar work by our team after recommendations from Richard Farrow and Hugh Alabaster from the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). We participated in the SME Track as a company that demonstrates the technology capabilities required to be a suitable collaboration partner for 'Big Science' organisations, with our Business Manager Tim Abbott speaking at the conference closing ceremony. Now in its third iteration, BSBF is a unique opportunity for European businesses and organisations to be fully informed of and get involved in calls and competitions for billions of Euros per year managed directly by international Big Science Organisations (BSOs). 24 - 25 September 2024 | Medical Technology Ireland (Galway Racecourse, Galway, Ireland) Lucideon’s Clair Prior, Edel Garry, and Tom Archer attended the event. 15 - 18 July 2024 | FEMS Junior EUROMAT 2024 (Manchester, UK) Lucideon sponsored the conference dinner at FEMS - Federation of European Materials Societies Junior EUROMAT 2024, supporting an incredible showcase of the skills and work of science and engineering students and early career researchers. A biannual event, this year's programme was organised by IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining) and covered a broad range of topics, including processing technologies, characterisation and modelling, and materials for sustainability. 22 - 23 May 2024 | Synthetic and Engineering Biology British-Swiss Summit (Bristol & London, UK) The Synthetic and Engineering Biology British-Swiss Summit was a collaborative venture between academic and industry leaders across the UK and Switzerland, and organised by the Bristol BioDesign Institute (University of Bristol), the Swiss Business Hub UK & Ireland, the BioIndustry Association and Lucideon. Lucideon's Anike Te chaired a panel at the summit on 22 May at the M-Shed in Bristol. Titled ‘Future perspectives in cell engineering’, the session included insights from representatives across industry including Rafael E. 15 - 16 May 2024 | The Advanced Ceramics Show (The NEC, Birmingham, UK) Lucideon's CEO, Tony Kinsella, delivered a keynote speech and participated in a panel at The Advanced Ceramics Show 2024. Tony's address on Thursday 16 May explored the transformative impact of advanced materials, from graphene to smart textiles, highlighting their potential to revolutionise industries and address global challenges. AMRICC's CEO, Dr Cathryn Hickey, also gave a chair's address at the event on Wednesday 15th May. Cathryn's address was titled "How the UK's Ceramics Sector can Compete on the International Stage", highlighting the innovations in materials science and collaboration models that could position the UK as a leader in advanced ceramics. Dr Gilda Gasparini, Director of Programmes at Lucideon, participated in a panel session at the event on 15th May. The session addressed the growing talent crisis in the advanced materials sector. 23 - 24 April 2024 | Materials Research Exchange (MRE) 2024 (London, UK) Hosted by Innovate UK Business Connect, the event brought together over 1500 delegates from the materials community: researchers, academics, industry, government, investors and innovators from various fields to explore and discuss cutting-edge developments in materials science and technology. 9 - 12 April 2024 | ceramitec 2024 (Munich, Germany) Lucideon representatives attended the ceramitec 2024 event. 20 March 2024 | Foundation Industry Strategy Workshop (Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, Liverpool, UK) Lucideon recently attended the Foundation Industry Strategy Workshop, hosted by the Foundation Industries Sustainability Consortium (FISC) at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, to discuss opportunities to drive low carbon innovation in the production of vital materials used across everyday life. Foundation industries produce materials that are a key component of everyday life, including cement and metal in buildings, glass and ceramic components in mobile phones, ceramic crockery and tiles as well as products including shampoo, and even greeting cards. 10 - 14 March 2024 | Waste Management Symposium 2024 (Phoenix, Arizona, USA) Lucideon's Tim Abbott and Enya Collier attended the Waste Management Symposium and our collaboration with NUVIA, MALLET™, was the topic of a presentation by NUVIA's Adrian Davis-Johnston. Based on a paper co-authored by Lucideon's Stuart Maclachlan and Marta Dana Fedorciuc-Onisa, the presentation was about a new, cost-efficient technique for encapsulating Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) which has the potential to revolutionise nuclear waste disposal. 3 - 7 March 2024 | TMS 2024 Annual Meeting & Exhibition (Hyatt Regency Orlando, Florida, USA) Lucideon's Carolyn Grimley, Dan Cunningham, and Julius Bonini attended the TMS 2024 event, flying the flag for Lucideon at one of the largest minerals, metals, and materials conferences in the world. 14 February 2024 | AMRICC Centre Launch (Stone, Staffordshire, UK) 14th February saw the launch event for The AMRICC Centre, a cutting-edge £10 million facility hosted and managed by Lucideon, set to revolutionise the advanced ceramics industry globally. The ceremony, attended by industry leaders and public officials, marked a pivotal moment in our pursuit of advanced ceramic innovation excellence. 12 - 16 February 2024 | American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Annual Meeting (San Francisco, California, USA) The AAOS Annual Meeting is the premier event for orthopaedic surgery and musculoskeletal health. 18 - 21 October 2023 | NASS Annual Meeting (Los Angeles Convention Center, LA, USA) Our Technical Sales Consultant for Healthcare, Andrew Atisa, attended this year's annual meeting. With over 300 companies and upwards of 2,500 physicians in attendance, the society describes the event as the Super Bowl of trade shows. The society also presented a robust educational programme, featuring surgical, medical, and multidisciplinary sessions that presented the latest issues and trends in spine research. 4 October 2022 | Webinar: Hydrogen - Diffusion, Permeability, Hydride Formation and Metallic Embrittlement - A Metallurgical Perspective on Hydrogen Issues. Part 2 - Hydride Formation & Embrittlement The growing use of hydrogen in the energy industry sets in motion a myriad of metallurgical issues and problems. The metallurgical community has long been dealing with problems associated with hydrogen interaction with metals; from containment in its liquid state at cryogenic temperatures to its burning as a fuel at high temperatures and everything in between. This two-part webinar series deals with some of the more complex metallurgical issues related to hydrogen. Part 2 of this webinar series (this webinar) addresses hydride formation and embrittlement. The dynamics of how hydrogen diffuses and infiltrates into a metal structure is shown. How the reactivity of hydrogen causes hydrides to form and coalesce in critical areas leading to embrittlement is discussed. How embrittlement is evaluated for particular metal systems is also shown. And finally, the preventative measures which can be implemented to prevent hydrogen embrittlement are presented. |

6 September 2022 | Webinar: Hydrogen - Diffusion, Permeability, Hydride Formation and Metallic Embrittlement - A Metallurgical Perspective on Hydrogen Issues. Part I - Containment, Diffusion & Permeability The growing use of hydrogen in the energy industry sets in motion a myriad of metallurgical issues and problems. The metallurgical community has long been dealing with problems associated with hydrogen interaction with metals; from containment in its liquid state at cryogenic temperatures to its burning as a fuel at high temperatures and everything in between. This two-part webinar series deals with some of the more complex metallurgical issues related to hydrogen. Part I (this webinar) addresses issues associated with cryogenic containment, diffusion, and permeability. A discussion of cryogenic materials selection and processing is presented addressing proper containment of hydrogen at extremely low temperatures. The nature of hydrogen gas is covered with a discussion revolving around the very small and very reactive nature of the hydrogen atom. It can diffuse through any material and permeate its microstructure. You can’t stop it, but maybe you can slow it down and control it. |

27 July 2022 | New Ceramic Technologies for the Move to Net-Zero (The Gallery, Catalyst Building, Staffordshire University, Stoke-On-Trent, UK) Lucideon and the Transforming Foundation Industries Network+ hosted the next American Ceramics Society UK Chapter meeting. The focus of this event was on how ceramic technologies can be the solution and catalyst to achieve Net-Zero targets for the Ceramic sector but also more widely as enabling advanced materials.
