CICS Helps Northgate plc to Comply with Mandatory Carbon Reporting

CICS is pleased to announce that it has won the contract to provide verification of Northgate plc's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for the Mandatory Carbon Reporting regulation (MCR)

As they are listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange, Northgate plc, the leading commercial vehicle hire company by fleet size in the UK and Spain, is required to report its GHG emissions under the newly-introduced MCR regulation by including them in its Directors' Report.

CICS will independently verify Northgate's scope 1 and scope 2 emissions which include direct combustion emissions from its operations and imported emissions from electricity usage. Northgate has carefully monitored and calculated its emissions since the start of its reporting year and will now have them independently verified to ensure their completeness, accuracy and relevance.

Shaun Bainbridge, Director at CICS, says:
"Although the Mandatory Carbon Reporting regulation does not stipulate that greenhouse gas emissions need to be independently verified by a third party, it is recommended by DEFRA as good practice.

"Having your emissions independently assured ensures that the data is consistent, accurate and valid. It also gives you confidence in the numbers reported and protects your organization from being accused of ‘greenwash'."

Colin Gilstin, Group Safety & Environment Manager at Northgate plc, says:
"As an environmentally friendly and conscious business we are pleased to be working with Lucideon in submitting our greenhouse gases under MCR. We are continually looking at ways to improve our carbon footprint and having independent verification from CICS ensures that the data we are starting with is accurate, giving us a good basis for improvement in the future."

We have written a white paper on Mandatory Carbon Reporting which can be downloaded via the panel on the right hand side of this page.
