Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry - Powders & Refractory Products - Test Method
In house test method determining the pore size distribution via mercury intrusion porosimetry of powders, refractory products (to BS 1902 part 3.16: 1990), filters and a wide variety of other porous materials.
Overview
Determination of pore size distribution by mercury intrusion porosimetry. Pressure is applied to force mercury into smaller and smaller pores. Measuring the applied pressure and the intrusion volume, the pore size distribution can be calculated.
Applications and Benefits
Characterisation of pore size distribution in the mesoporous and macroporous ranges with variety of applications not limited to medical devices, refractory production, filters and general QA and QC in production environments where pore characterisation is critical.
Form of Results
Summary statistics include total pore area in units of m2/g, median pore diameter by volume and area determination in units of μm, average 4V/A pore diameter in μm, bulk density in g/mL and percentage porosity. The pore size distribution data is presented in a wide variety of formats included cumulative, incremental, differential and log-differential tabulated and presented graphically.
