Lucideon Develops New Methods for Mechanical Testing of Micro Materials

Lucideon has extended its mechanical testing services to include testing of micro materials, through the development of new, customised test methods

Lucideon’s customised test methods allow tests to be performed to analyse micro materials to inform materials selection, product development and optimisation, quality control, and to find the root cause of failure. Many micro materials are not covered by standard testing procedures but Lucideon has developed specific test methods designed for specific micro materials including: collagen, cellulose, polymer surgical mesh, micro test coupons derived from finished devices (e.g. PE acetabular liners, PEEK cages, etc.) and more.

Dr Sean Borkowski, healthcare business manager, said:

“Micro materials are extremely important for a wide range of applications and are being used more than ever in healthcare as the technologies allow for ever more complex medical applications. We know that a standardised test is important for our clients, so we have developed our own methods in the absence of published standards for a wide range of well used micro materials.

“At Lucideon we have an excellent background in developing customised test methods for material and product efficiency and safety to aid design, development and performance, as well as being able to test for the root cause of failures. Our experts sit on a number of standards committees and have played key roles in developing many of the standards that are applied across accredited laboratories nationally and internationally.”

Lucideon provides materials development, testing and analysis services to a wide range of industries and sectors including healthcare. Lucideon’s healthcare experts offer a wide range of services including cleaning validation, failure analysis, quality control, regulatory submission support and powder consultancy. Its specialist healthcare team has dedicated services for the pharmaceutical, consumer healthcare and medical device sectors. Lucideon’s experts operate from state-of-the-art laboratories in the UK and across the USA and serve an international client base of industry leading companies.
