Lucideon Helps Determine Impact of Hot Isostatic Pressing on Fatigue Life of Ti-6Al-4V Component

Lucideon expertise helped a client with additive manufactured implants.

Ti-6Al-4V Component

The challenge

A healthcare client was using additive manufacturing to produce Ti-6Al-4V components for orthopaedic implants. The microstructure and static mechanical properties of these components were improved through the use of a HIP treatment, however the client was concerned about how this treatment impacted the long term fatigue life.

What we delivered

Lucideon experts were able to leverage their experience with additive manufacturing to develop a qualification plan for these components which included Lucideon coordinating component builds, HIP treatments and high cycle fatigue testing.

Value to the client

The information provided to the client allowed them to further understand the material / product that they were producing and confidently select the post processing that was best suited for their application.
