Independent Expert Evidence for Product and Material failures
When products and materials fail in service, claims and disputes follow. We provide independent, evidence-led investigation and reporting to help solicitors, insurers, and manufacturers understand what happened, why it happened, and what the testing evidence shows.
Who we help
- Solicitors managing litigation, pre-action investigations, or Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) who need independent technical evidence and clear reporting
- Insurers investigating cause, scope, and liability in products and construction-related claims
- Manufacturers responding to allegations, warranty claims, recalls, or in-service failures where laboratory evidence is required
Choose your route
Expert Witness
For dispute instructions requiring independent expert evidence and court-usable reporting.
Tailored Work Scopes
For technical investigation, testing strategy, laboratory work, and interpretation where you need answers, but you do not need expert witness evidence or court-directed reporting.
Not sure which route you need?
We'll help you scope the right level of service based on your questions, timetable, and whether expert evidence is required.
How we work
1. Clarify the issues
2. Define samples, evidence, and constraints
3. Agree a proportionate test strategy aligned to the questions and the dispute timetable
4. Conduct laboratory testing and examinations with clear documentation of what was done, by whom, and under what supervision
5. Interpret results and develop conclusions based on evidence, standards, and scientific reasoning
6. Report clearly - including limitations, assumptions, and the basis for conclusions

- A proportionate testing and examination plan, aligned to the dispute needs and timetable
- Evidence handling and integrity controls (e.g., chain of custody, sample retention)
- Laboratory testing and technical analysis, with transparent statements of what was done, by whom, and under what supervision
- Independent conclusions and reasoning, based on evidence and standards
- Expert reporting suitable for use in dispute resolution and, where applicable, court processes
- Ongoing expert support as required (e.g., responding to written questions, supporting joint discussions, and joint statement work)
If delivered as a Tailored Work Scope:
- Agreed technical questions and scope of work
- A defined testing and analysis plan
- Results, interpretation, and technical findings
- Recommendations for next technical steps (e.g., further sampling, additional testing, or alternative methods)
Sector experience (typical dispute scenarios)
- Construction - alleged non-compliance, 'fit for purpose' questions, premature deterioration, concrete and mortar issues, building product failures, bricks, coatings, refractories, and adhesives performance in service.
- Healthcare (medical devices, biomaterials, and pharma) - post-market performance questions, wear and corrosion debris, coatings integrity, and contamination and impurity investigations.
- Ceramics - cracking and thermal shock, inclusions and porosity, phase and processing issues, joining interfaces, and advanced ceramics performance questions.
- Coatings - delamination, curing, corrosion under film, thickness non-conformance, surface preparation questions, contamination, and specification disputes.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you offer services that are not expert witness evidence?
Yes. Our Tailored Work Scopes provide technical investigation, testing, and interpretation without the expert witness element. - What information do you need to scope work?
Usually: the key questions and issues, background documents, what samples are available, the timetable, and any constraints (e.g., access, preservation requirements, or non-destructive first steps). - Can you help with testing strategy?
Yes. We can design a proportionate test plan aligned to the questions - whether for expert evidence or technical support.
