Refractory Materials - Sieve Analysis - Test Method - BS 1902-3.3:1981
Methods of testing refractory materials. General and textural properties. Sieve analysis (methods 1902-303).
Sieve analysis is carried out to determine the particle size distribution of granular material, which is a major factor determining their packing density.
The material is passed through a series of sieves of progressively decreasing aperture, so that it is divided into fractions that are defined by the apertures of the sieves used.
Grain size distributions can be determined by either dry or wet test methods, the latter giving more reproducible results and is the mass fraction, as a percentage, of each grain size.
