Polymer Contaminant Identification

When your products become contaminated there can be a whole range of issues from performance problems, aesthetic issues and even serious safety risks. Our contamination identification services can help you to determine what your contaminant is so we can then understand where it comes from and how to prevent it.

For identifying contaminants we offer:

  • Scanning Electron Microscope / Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) – inspect external/internal contaminants and identify them by elemental microanalysis (spot size 1-1000µm) with 0.1% sensitivity. SEM coupled with EDX is an excellent tool for detecting contamination of polymeric materials.
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (ICP-OES/MS) – detect and quantify trace elements/contaminants in polymer materials up to ppb levels.
