Polymer Leachability / Toxicity Assessment

Testing for leachables and toxicity helps to reduce safety risks and contamination. It's possible for polymer products to leach over time which can cause issues. Understanding leaching and toxicity issues with your products allows you to adjust cleaning procedures, advise on safety precautions and consider more appropriate designs to help remove the issues.

At Lucideon we can provide:

  • Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) – determine low molecular weight monomers, initiators, antioxidants, UV stabilisers, lubricants, process aids, plasticisers, anti-static agents, flame retardants, modifiers and oligomers.
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) – determine medium to high molecular weight polar species including antioxidants, UV absorbers, plasticisers, lubricants, process aids and heat stabilisers.
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry (ICP-OES/MS) – determine metal compounds from catalysts, stabilisers, etc.
  • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) – detect non-volatile residues (NVR), such as higher molecular weight oligomers and mould release agents e.g. silicone oil.
