Advancing Ceramics: Flash Sintering for Next-Generation Materials
Broadcast Date: 19 November 2025
Lucideon and Batri present an exclusive webinar exploring how flash sintering is transforming the production of ceramic and battery materials
A recent UK Research and Innovation Faraday Battery Challenge support collaboration between Batri, Lucideon, and Swansea University / Prifysgol Abertawe demonstrated up to 78% energy savings in manufacturing sodium layered manganese oxide (NMO) cathode materials using flash sintering.
In this webinar, Carolyn Grimley, PhD, from Lucideon and Emma Freeman, PhD, from Batri will discuss the technical advances, scale-up progress, and the potential for flash sintering to enable more sustainable, high-performance energy materials.
Dr. Carolyn Grimley leads the US Advanced Materials team at Lucideon, which focuses on a wide variety of challenges behind designing, manufacturing, and testing materials for harsh and high temperature environments.
Dr. Emma Freeman has worked at Batri, in South Wales, as a Battery Innovation Scientist for 5 years. Emma has worked on a number of projects focussing on Na-ion battery technologies, including novel synthesis of layered oxide cathode materials, performance optimisation of hard carbon anodes, as well as cell assembly for Na-ion battery pack integration.
