Lucideon Invests in New White Light Interferometer

Lucideon has invested in a new white light interferometer (WLI) to increase its analytical support for wear testing clients in the US, and other applications

The new WLI instrument has been installed at Lucideon’s US headquarters in Schenectady, New York, alongside additional investments in a new Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (EDS) instrument and the latest Prosim and AMTI wear testing rigs for orthopedic implants. Lucideon’s wear testing services, both in the US and in the UK, are supported by detailed analysis of implant surfaces, wear debris and serums, following wear cycles.

Gemma Budd, business leader, healthcare, Lucideon, said:

“Our new WLI (White Light Interferometry) instrument is an extremely advanced piece of analytical equipment which increases our surface science technologies in the US. This will allow us to measure wear patterns, volume changes, and other topographical properties of the articulating surface.

“The new instrument can measure even larger changes in topography, whilst still retaining the single nm resolution, and can handle curved and complex geometries using a robotic imaging stage.”

Lucideon provides materials development, consultancy and analytical services to a wide range of industries, including healthcare. Lucideon has made major investments in its wear testing capabilities with state-of-the-art Prosim and AMTI simulators in the UK and the US. Lucideon’s UK headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent have long been renowned for its surface science capabilities, and recent investments in new instruments have brought wear testing supporting services to the same high standard.
