New Investment to Boost Lucideon's Analytical Capabilities in US

Lucideon has invested in a new white light interferometer (WLI) to increase its analytical capabilities at its site in Schenectady, New York, USA.

The new WLI instrument provides flexible measurement and unparalleled performance for a wide range of industries, including medical devices, aerospace, and power generation.  The powerful topographical analysis can help to improve product quality and increase productivity, by providing greater insight into product performance and functionality.  For example, it can be used to measure wear scars on articulating surfaces and coatings, corrosion pitting, and enamel erosion. As well as being able to provide highly detailed quantitative analysis with a variety of topographical parameters, and an ability to generate 2D and 3D images to visualise the product properties too, WLI requires minimal sample preparation time and fast measurements, making it much more efficient than other surface topography techniques such as profilometry and AFM.

“Surface measurement can be performed for the entire product life-cycle, from design to post-production, helping clients to understand and control manufacturing processes.  The investment will increase our ability to characterize extremely diverse sample types, and to characterize surface textures, finishes, roughness, curvature, slope and other features to sub-micron resolution.  Measurements can be made with vertical resolutions of just 0.1nm, and the information captured is so detailed that it can be used in the re-optimization of upstream tools and processes, helping to reduce out-of-spec products and waste.”
