Together with 8 European partners, Lucideon has been awarded a €3.9m (£2.8m) grant by the European Commission to train industry PhD researchers for the development of drug-free antibacterial materials used for medical applications, such as wound care and implants.

The approach is multi-faceted, considering the chemical, electrochemical, topographical and physical attributes of the materials so as to attack infections using more than one mechanism. The approach is based on existing IP and know-how within the group of partners; the project aims to bring together this knowledge to commercialize a revolutionary material platform.
