Change of Use

If you are refurbishing an existing building or retrofitting it for change of use, we help to ensure that your materials, designs and structures are fit for purpose, by providing intrusive and non-intrusive structural investigations.

There are generally no plans available for the construction of older buildings and hence investigations are required in order to allow new designs to be adopted; these can include a structural stocktake, and assessment of redundant capacity and of usable life left in the structure.

We employ techniques such as coring, rebar plotting, structural loading, GPR scanning and material analysis, and consider all substrates:

  • Reinforced concrete
  • Masonry
  • Steel
  • Cast iron
  • Timber.

Lucideon's experts will design a full program of sampling and assessments in order to understand the building construction.  The results of the investigation will include a photographic log, full engineering annotated CAD drawings, UKAS accredited test reports and detailed log of findings.

This information is key when designing the new building application.
