Polymer Raw Material Assay

Our raw material assay services help you to better understand your raw materials and how they behave in downstream processes.  In manufacturing processes the quality of the starting material can often determine the quality of the end product.  It is also important that the raw materials you start with are consistent to maintain high quality products using the same process methods.

Some of the techniques that we apply include:

  • Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) – identify the type of polymeric component in the material.
  • Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) – separate and identify volatile organic species in polymers, e.g. initiators, plasticisers.
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) – separate and identify medium to high molecular weight polar species in polymers based on elusion/retention time, e.g. antioxidants, UV stabilisers.
  • Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) – examine the bulk composition of polymer materials, i.e. the percentage of moisture, low molecular weight organic additives, polymers and inorganic fillers.
