Landfill Gas Sampling & Analysis - Test Method

Landfill Gas Sampling and Analysis - Test Method - LFTGN04

Overview

Annual and bi-annual ISO 17025 accredited sampling of landfill gas on to absorbent collection tubes and analysis as specified in the Environment Agency and SEPA document LFT guidance note 4

Applications and Benefits

Sampling and testing is required in order to report the levels of contamination in the landfill gas to the Environment Agency. An up to date profile of the gas composition is useful when trying to determine the source of gas leaks from the landfill site at perimeter boreholes. If electricity generation is carried out on site a thorough examination of the gas can ensure that appropriate gas clean up is in place to reduce the potential of damage to the gas engines. Carbon monoxide is a useful additional analysis which is used to confirm and monitor underground combustion within landfill sites.

Form of Results

The results will be reported in ppm and µg/m3 to meet the requirements of LFTGN04 in most cases.
